This February, let's take a moment to pause and reflect on the importance of Black History Month. We take some time to listen, learn and remember the sacrifices of people of African ancestry and their contributions to the betterment of Canadian, society and societies around the globe. We witness their struggles and ongoing oppression.
We are devoted to creating safer and braver spaces for ACB young people. We achieve this through representation in our staff, resources, and specific training to support Members.
Although BGC Ottawa’s services are FREE, African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) Members still encounter other barriers.
We increase opportunity through programs like the Diversity Library, which features stories about children and families from many different parts of the world and backgrounds.
Our staff Equity Book Club gives a place to discuss issues that matter to ACB team members and for non-ACB folk to learn.
Our commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) goes past this month. We recognize the importance of Black History 365 days a year, plus one day—especially in a leap year!
We share our appreciation for African, Caribbean, and Black Members, families, partners, supporters, volunteers, staff, and communities.
We celebrate your contributions to our City and society.
We honour community builders like ACB artists, Black-owned businesses, and service providers who create environments and conditions for communities to thrive.
Please take this time as an opportunity to learn more about African, Caribbean, and Black cultures and the pride they bring to our communities.
