2nd annual Capital One Race for Kids at Camp Smitty a great success!

Published June 22, 2016 21:26

On Saturday, June 4th, under perfect weather, 52 challenge-seekers headed to Camp Smitty for a day of fun and adventure in the 2nd Annual Capital One Race for Kids. Decked out in themed attire, teams like Costco Wholesale Canada's ‪#‎Hereforthesamples‬, Canoe Feel the Burn? and local country star Meghan Patrick's Grace and Grit tested their minds, bodies and spirits with ten different checkpoint challenges.

Thanks to checkpoint sponsors Amsted Design-Build, Country 101.1/ Warner Music Canada, Myticas Consulting, Panera Bread, Costco Wholesale Canada, The Better Software Company and Stantec, race participants built ladders, slid down waterslides, walked the plank and shopped til they dropped - all to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa's Camp Smitty.

Following a delicious camp-style BBQ dinner, awards were given to recognize top individual fundraiser, top fundraising team, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams, and best dressed team. Congratulations to Amsted's "A-Team" for winning this year's Race for Kids. In addition, BGCO volunteer Liz is the proud owner of 2 tickets to anywhere WestJet flies for raising the most money individually ($1,605) and the PYCs (Pretty, Young, Chicks) are heading to Elements Luxury Tented Camp for a night of glamping for raising the most money as a team ($2,758). In total, an amazing $13,000 (gross) was raised this year!

Check out the photos from the event and relive all the fun and festivities had by all! Special thanks to Simon Stiles for capturing such beautiful photos. Perhaps you will be inspired to join us next year?
