Code of Conduct

PLEDGE

In the interest of fostering a safe and supportive environment, BGC Ottawa pledges to make our presence, our platform, and our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, sexual identity and orientation, gender identity and experience, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, and religion.

STANDARDS

BGC Ottawa encourages behaviors that contributes to creating a safe and supportive environment include. Here are a few examples:

  • Using inclusive language
  • Being respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
  • Accepting constructive criticism
  • Focusing on what is best for the community
  • Showing empathy towards other community members

BGC Ottawa does not support behaviors that create a negative environment, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Using sexualized language or imagery
  • Trolling, insulting, and personal attacks
  • Harassing publicly or privately
  • Publishing others private information, without explicit permission
  • Supporting other’s content which could reasonably be considered inappropriate

RESPONSIBILITY

BGC Ottawa Staff are responsible for clarifying the standards of acceptable behavior and are expected to take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any instance of unacceptable behavior.

BGC Ottawa Staff have the right and responsibility to report, remove, edit, or reject behaviors, comments, and other contributions that are not aligned to this Code of conduct, or to ban temporarily or permanently any contributor for other behaviors that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.

SCOPE

This Code of Conduct applies within all BGC Ottawa spaces, and it also applies when an individual is representing BGC Ottawa in public spaces. Examples of BGC Ottawa spaces include official social media accounts, official BGC Ottawa locations, representatives at online or offline events, and any other space that could reasonably be considered a part of BGC Ottawa.

ENFORCEMENT

Instances of unacceptable behavior may be reported by contacting the Staff at communications@bgcottawa.org . All complaints will be reviewed, investigated, and will result in a response that is deemed necessary and appropriate to the circumstances. The Staff is obligated to maintain confidentiality regarding the reporter of an incident.
